That's My Final Answer...for now
I had to go to the mall today, something that I have come to despise over the years. Chuck it all up it impatience; I just hate having to search high and low for that adequate item of clothing to wear.
I needed a dress for a wedding. No, not mine, but for a friend’s (in June) and eventually one for my cousin's (in July). I made sure to9 leave as early as I could do to the only mall that is open--in our post-Katrina world--is located in the bowels of hell itself.
Okay, I may be exaggerating.
For those of you not familiar with the New Orleans area, there are two main locations here: the Westbank (where I reside) and the Eastbank. The Westbank is made fun of by the Eastbankers. It's mainly a residential area with not much to do other than your everyday norm stuff. One of those use to be shopping at Oakwood mall, but during Katrina, some people didn't evacuate and decided the best way to past the time after Katrina left the area was to loot and set fire to the mall. Oakwood wasn't completely lost, but it hasn't been back in action since that faithful day. This now brings me to the Eastbank.
Now the Eastbank is made fun of by Westbankers (me excluded.) The Eastbank is more "city." This is where the French Quarter, Garden District, New Orleans East and Lakeview are located. This is also where the other mall, Lakeside, is located.
Since Katrina ruined a number of people's homes and businesses, there has been a population boom in the case of workers: construction, electricians, etc... Now, because over 1/3 of the Eastbank area is inhabitable, people kinda moved onto the neighboring cities/neighborhoods. If you see where I'm going, there is a LOT more people in areas where there wasn't so many people. Traffic is a major BITCH! Horrible. Horrendous. Lakeside Mall is practically dead center in all this mess. (Which I so aptly called it the "bowels of hell."
I was able to get in and out alive, though it's kinda hard to get use to the fact that what use to be a 20 minute drive has become a 1 1/2 hour drive just to get from Locale A to Locale B.
I found my dress (thank you Ann Taylor) and I got to make my WAY overdo stop at Whole Foods (fresh fruit to kill for!) I also became 100% sure that I will move out of New Orleans come next June.
Don't get me wrong, I love New Orleans, LOVE IT. I want to raise a family here. I want to purchase and renovate my very own Nineteenth Century Creole Cottage. I want to watch my city be like the mythological phoenix and rise out of the ashes. I know that if I don't get out of here, that very love will metamorph into pure hatred. I can feel it.
So come next year, I gonna move myself to good ole' Jackson Mississippi. Why Jackoson, you ask? Well I know the area...somewhat. It's practically small town (the surrounding towns/cities, that is), which would provide the much needed tranquility that I yearn for. Yet it is still close by to civilization when things like, let us say, a movie theatre and a manicure are needed. Oh, and it is SOOOO much more affordable over there than it is over here for rent. (E.g., cheapest one bedroom here= $750, cheapest one bedroom there=$475. ANd yes, I have done my homework, it's not cheap for a reason, say, crackhouses next door..)
And for those of you worried, I even have a job lined up: relief babysitter for S&D ;)

It's that time of year
I was spoiled.
Last year, in June, I went to New York City for a second in less than a 12 month period. I went with some friends of mine in July 2004, than went again in June 2005. (Take my advice folks; if you ever want to go to NYC, go in June. Damn, was the weather great!)
I want to go back. This craaving has hit me eaxh year around this time for 2 years now. That is why I say I was spoiled; my first craving was satisfied.
I loved it there. It was the first place i ever visited that felt like home. The plae is so vibrant. The people are amzing, being from all walks of life from all over the world. If you ride the subway, you would never see any type of segregation going down, well, at least not that I saw! The food is amazing and there is so many varities. (I had the best BBQ ever in Times Square. Don't beleive me? Ask Kahunah over at DOA. He'll back me up.) Tehre is so much to do, from restaurants to theatre to museums to festivals. I WANT TO GO BACK!!!
Of course, y'all are probably saying to yourselves than go, why don't ya, but I can't. LAck of funds and all that. All the previous trips I was able to stay at a friend's dad's place for free, but that wouldn't be the case any more.
In celebration of the place I would love to call home one day (well, just for a few months at least), I posted someof my best pics from each trip on Idiosyncratic Speckles, so go check it out.

Bill bans smoking with kids in car
Measure handily passes state House
Friday, May 05, 2006
By Ed Anderson
Capital bureau
BATON ROUGE -- By more than a 2-1 margin, the House on Thursday passed a bill to prohibit smokers from lighting up in a vehicle if there are young passengers present.
Lawmakers voted 67-31 for House Bill 1010 by Rep. Gary Smith, D-Norco, sending it to the Senate for debate. Smith's bill prohibits smoking in a vehicle if a child is buckled up in child restraints. State law requires a child weighing 60 pounds or less to be strapped into a child restraint.
Smith said his bill would apply to motorists driving children younger than "6 to 8 years of age," the typical age of a 60-pound youth.
He said the bill is designed to protect young children from being locked in a vehicle with a smoker and having their health jeopardized.
The bill would apply to any motorist or passenger in a vehicle with young children, even when windows of the vehicle are open. Smith said a police officer could stop a vehicle and issue a ticket if he sees the vehicle's occupants smoking with small children present.
If the driver is convicted, Smith said, the offense would not go on the driver's record to be used as a factor in raising auto insurance rates. However, a violator could be fined $150 or sentenced to no less than 24 hours of community service, Smith said.
Rep. Alex Heaton, D-New Orleans, said a car is an extension of a home and people are not banned from smoking at home.
"This is impeding on the prerogative and rights of a parent," argued Rep. Carla Blanchard Dartez, D-Morgan City. "You put your child's life in danger by speeding, too. This is going a little too far for us in the Legislature."
Earlier Thursday, the Senate Committee on Transportation, Highways and Public Works said that teenagers who drop out of school could lose their driver's licenses or not be eligible to get one. The panel voted 4-1 for Senate Bill 284 by Sen. Heulette "Clo" Fontenot, R-Livingston, sending it to the Senate floor for debate.
Fontenot said the bill is designed to use driving privileges as a way to encourage students ages 15 to 18 to stay in school.
The bill says as long as a student is in school, enrolled in a general educational development program or is being schooled at home, he or she can get a license or keep one. If the youth drops out or has more than 10 consecutive days of unexcused absences or 15 days of unexcused absences in a semester, the students can lose their license or be denied one.
The bill would not apply to a teenager who is "unable to attend any school program due to circumstances beyond" the student's control, such as an emergency or being a mainstay of the family's income.
Fontenot said the student must present documentation of enrollment in educational programs or proof of graduation to driver's license personnel . He said the bill is designed to reduce the state's dropout rate, currently the second-highest in the nation.
The committee also sent to the Senate floor House Bill 985 by Rep. Damon Baldone, D-Houma, prohibiting motorcycle operators from carrying passengers younger than 5 on their vehicles. Any child who rides on a cycle must be outfitted with a safety helmet, Baldone said. The bill started out banning children younger than 8 from being motorcycle passengers, but a House committee amended it to the lower age.

Here comes Peter Cottontail...
Today is a day that is celebrated the world over as Easter Sunday, which is one of the most important and holy days in the christian church. Chnaces are, no matter who you are, or where you are from, you have heard about the man who has inspired such a strong beleif, Jesus.
Do you believe him to be our Lord and savior? Do you beleive him to be the son of God? Do you beleive him to be a prophet? Do you beleive him to be simply a man? No matter what your answer or beleif is, one thing is 100% true: Jesus has changed our world. This is a man who's existance has inspired countless millions to worship him and serve him in their own fashion. Some have dies for him, some have killed for him, and others have shared whatever love they held in the name of him.
I was born and raised a catholic (a sector of the Christian church) though tyhrough my own personal beliefs, I have broke away from my upbringing. I have trouble beliveing that Jesus is "our Lord and Savior" but I will never deny that this man existed and that his life (be it either fact or fiction) has brought out the good in a lot of people. I try to hold true one lesson I learned in my religion classes, Jesus' "golden rule": "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you," Jesus said, "do ye even so to them…" (Matt. 7: 12).
However way you decide to celebrate Easter Sunday, just don't forget how it came into exiatance. Plus a word of advice: don't eat all your chocolates at once, save some for later!!

Shout out for a Little Bit of You're Opinions
Let's me get hypothethical for you:
Let's say your a guy. Now let's say that about seven months ago you had a temporary gig at this place you were working at, and let's say you met this gal who also worked there. For the month that you were there, you became friends with that gal.
Now let's say a huge hurricane came on through twisted up things for a bit.
Now let's say that you just recently started visiting that place you worked at. Now, the few times you popped in, you would ask about that gal you met, wondering if she was around.
My question for you fine folks (particularly guys, but gals, you are more than welcomed to throw your two cents in) is actually multiple choice:
Since you're (hypothetically) that guy, why were you asking around for her?
A) You genuinely would like to see how she's doing and talk to her in person.
B) You're interested in her, and would love to see her agian.
C) You're bored and looking for a friendly face.
D) Other (Please explain)
Editor's note: Yes, this is a tale reflecting the writer's life. Please humour her. Thank you.

Going Out with a Bang
Friday was quite a hectic day. So hectic that it could have been my last day on earth. Or so I have been told...
I was scheduled to work as a waitress at the restaurant I work at (instead of my typical hostess gig) which is a duty that is always proudly accepted. (How can I ever say no to the prospect of earning tip money? Woo-hoo to extra cash!!!)
Anyway, that night the restaurant was having it's best night ever. It was so great that the fates decided to pull an early April Fools prank on all of us gathered in the establishment by allowing a freak accident to occur. This accident consisted of a plate, a gas grill, and a gas line.
If you haven't guessed what happened, here it is: gas leak.
Yep, you read right, a gas leak. In a busy restaurant. In a packed restaurant. It was a ton of fun (**rolled eyes**) running around as calmly as possible making sure that the evacuation order was true and making sure that all our emergency exits were accessible before annoucing to a heck-a-lot cluless folks that they were enjoying their dinner in a possible time bomb. Woo. Hoo.
AS dire as the circumstaces sound, I couldn't help but giggle through-out the entire incident. That probably had to do with how relaxed all the patrons were during the whole incident. Plus it was a gas hearing one patron sarcastically complain how upset he was over how he had to leave the table after being so close to satisfying his growling stomach.
My favorite moment of the entire evening: a co-worker quickly running to the back of our establishment to get her cigarettes after I announced to the patrons to "...gather all belongings and calmly leave out the nearest exit." Yes, this event beat out surviving what could have been quite an "exploding" night.
We ended up sending all our customers home since we didn't know how long everything would take. It turned out we were able to open not even 30 minutes later for us to complete our eveing just as busy as we were before the incident.
I still giggled throughout the entire night.
And to those who have condenmed me for my giggling fit (y'all know who you are!), : P

Amazing Ideas!!!
Only about two weeks ago I was given a classroom assignment that consisted of me buying a numerous amount of magazines. My class and I were to due a little visual reseearch whose specifications would bore you.
Due to my lack of funds, I made sure to buy magazines that I would actual read after its' classroom use. One of these mags was a killer design magazine, Step Inside Design. Awesome mag with amazing articles.
They had two great articles on (well, one was in actuality, an advertisement) that I thought would interest everyone adn that means you.
First, do you run a business? Do you want to start a business? Would you eventually want to market world-wide? Did you always want to get a chinese/korean/mandarin character for you name? Or you just curious? Than you might want get an expert Chinese character for your name/ business.
Secondly, and by far my favorite :
This defintely puts a finishing touch on the technology age that we are in. Plus, how can't you be amazed at someone that is, literally, connecting the world through something as simmple as a laptop?

A Trip down Memory Lane
Today, at work, I was asked the spelling of Thibodeaux,** in which a stroll down memory lane commenced. My mind wandered into the past on those folks that had an impact on my life, both good and bad.
Mr. Thobodeaux: This was my band director in high school. A great guy. One of the few teacher I acutally loved to be around. One day, only a few weeks before graduating, I meandered into his office. He was prepping for that afternoon's rehearsal. He was concentrating on what ever task he held at had, though looked up for aseond and said, "Angie, you have a great smile that always brightens my day." Then he went write back to work. Definitely a remark that sparked the, "hey, maybe I'm not ugly..."
Chelsea: She was a great childhood friend that has the prestige of being the hugest Jesus fan I ever met. (Even greater than Stacey.) I remember chatting to her what was to be the beginning of the end of my faith in the catholic church. I spoke about how freaking bored I always am during mass, feeling like a part of a huge congrgation of zombies. She told me, downright seriously passionate, that everytime the bread becomes body (Don't know what I'm talking about? Check into your neighborhood catholic church/website!) she gets excited. And not in the perverse way, some of you are thinking. You know who you are... It still amazes me on how a 14 year old girl had such a reassurance on her spirituality...
Lewie: This guy was someone I worked with who loooooved women. He loved everything about the fairer sex. Any woman who wouuld present herself in front of him, no matter how flaw-full, he would find something beautiful about them, and charm the shit out of them. He also was the first man to officially call me a "woman". It was weird at the time, believe me. Gawd, how I miss him. He still owes me a manicure...
Alfred: Another guy I worked with. He was extremely passionate about the arts/film/politics. He had an amazing love for cultural arts and it beamed from him. This guy got me into noticing some of the little differances that each one of us humans bring to the world.
Lynn: She was my best friend in highhscool. She treated me like shit. It took me about 5 years to notice this. Realizing how horrible she treated me was one of the few good memories I had during my first year of college. She made me realize that there is something that can't me missing from any friendship--or any relationship--: respect.
Mr. Blocker***: He was my highscool's theater director. He was (and still is) great at what he did (does). He even has won a few Big Easy Awards, New Orleans' very own entertainment awards. He was the guy he introduced me to theatre and, in the end, introduce to me that I can sing. Good. Mr. Brand had an extreme passion for musical theatre that was extremely contagious.
Alfred also once told me that there will always be peole through out your life that only have one purpose in their breif stint in your life. Of course, it will always vary what that "purpose" is. Those were the people in my life that had a breif stint, than left. Some I miss, others, well, I don't want to end my post on a sour note.... :D
**Names have been changed to protect their privacy.
*** Mr. Blocker is the exception. I always been proud of the act that my highschool had a professsional director as our director, and not a parent. Talk about luck....

| Starving Artist You are 28% Rational, 42% Extroverted, 0% Brutal, and 57% Arrogant. |
| You are the Starving Artist! Like some sort of emaciated Frenchman, you sit in your fancy little chair and contemplate beauty, meaning, flowers, and all kinds of other ridiculous crap. You are more intuitive than logical, and are primarily guided by your heart and emotions. You are also very introverted and gentle. Of course, this does not mean that you do not have an ego. In fact, you are surprisingly arrogant for someone so emotional and gentle. This is why you are best described as a starving artist. You are very introspective and quite sure of yourself, as any accomplished artist is, yet your views are impractical, guided by feelings, and overly gentle. You probably find math, logic, and similar intellectual pursuits offensive to your artistic sensibilities, and you prefer the open-endedness of artistry because it's infinitely easier to ponder the beauty of a sock than to build rocketships. So really you have no reason to be arrogant, you big doofus, because the skills you value (emotion, spirit, art, etc.) in yourself are valuable only on a subjective level, meaning your arrogance is purely masturbatory, like the insipid self-pleasuring of some twat who spouts artistic nonsense only for the pleasant tinkling sound it makes upon his indiscriminating ears. In short, your personality is defective because you are arrogant, introverted, introspective, gentle, and thoroughly irrational...posessing most of the traits needed to be a starving--and useless--artist. So get out there, write a few short stories that are allegories for the indestructible spirit of socks, and starve!
1. You are more INTUITIVE than rational. 2. You are more INTROVERTED than extroverted. 3. You are more GENTLE than brutal. 4. You are more ARROGANT than humble.
The Emo Kid: Intuitive, Introverted, Gentle, Humble. The Starving Artist: Intuitive, Introverted, Gentle, Arrogant. The Bitch-Slap: Intuitive, Introverted, Brutal, Humble. The Brute: Intuitive, Introverted, Brutal, Arrogant. The Hippie: Intuitive, Extroverted, Gentle, Humble. The Televangelist: Intuitive, Extroverted, Gentle, Arrogant. Wocky Jabber
"Umpteen bureaux gossips. One mostly schizophrenic Jabberwocky auctioned off Mercury, because dogs telephoned umpteen irascible televisions, yet progressive elephants grew up partly cleverly. Pluto quickly untangles one almost obese botulism. Two speedy pawnbrokers sacrificed silly poisons, then five progressive botulisms laughed cleverly, yet irascible orifices tastes five silly Jabberwockies, because one speedy orifice laughed. The slightly bourgeois botulism very lamely auctioned off two televisions. Quixotic tickets mostly noisily marries one progressive orifice. The cats laughed, even though one Klingon towed pawnbrokers. Umpteen speedy orifices lamely bought two dogs.
Five irascible wart hogs abused Phil. Umpteen orifices kisses one silly pawnbroker. Umpteen schizophrenic bureaux auctioned off Paul, because two progressive Macintoshes noisily telephoned one pawnbroker, but five dwarves extremely quickly."

I'm still here
I know, it's been awhile. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how ya' look at it) I've been quite busy with the activities of work and school. Did y'all know that as you get closer to graduating, the more your teachers will give you un-imaginable amounts of work to do? I didn't know, so that's why I tell you.
Gawd, I can't wait to graduate.
Speaking of school, I came face to face with the strangest possibilty: my magazine cover design that I'm working on might make it to print.
You see, one of my classes is Computer IV, a sort of add-on education to my previous lessons of QUARK in Computer III. (Quark's an amazing editing program, just in case ya didn't know.) The currrent assignmenet we are working on consist of me and my classmates making four roughs (another term for an elaborate sketch of your idea) of the cover for our school's "literature and visual arts" magazine. These will than be viewed by the english and art department where the educators will pick out what they feel is suitable for the current year's theme.
My teacher told me repeatedly that she liked mine. (She even did it once all bugged eye, like she was amazed at what I did...beleive me, it wasn't that amazing. Just plain amazing. :D )
It's just strange thinking that I could have designed something that will go into print. Totally cool, too!
Oh, and before I forget...HAPPY FIFTH ANNIVERSARY DREW AND STACEY!!!
