5 Reasons Why I Love Her

My mom's the best in the whole world. Not a day goes by in which I know that I am lucky, no, blessed to call her mom. I couldn't ask for a better one. And here are some reasons why:

1. Simply, she's my best friend. I can talk to her about almost anything (she still is a mom!) and know that she can listen not as a mom, but as a friend. When I was 19, I was getting physically sick going to school, my third semester in college. I hated it, but didn't want to drop out because I didn't want to disappointment my parents. I knew how they would react and I didn't want to go through a parental rant. I started crying while going to my classes because I hated it so much. I couldn't take it any more, swallowed my fear and told them. "That's why you been sick?" responds my mom. Yep, no scolding, just a simply "if ya hate it that much, leave. Don't get sick over it." Figured...:D

2. She's always there for me when I'm sick like crazy. She'll be by my side, caressing my face and hair just as she did when I was 5 years old, even though I'm now 27. Nothing's more comforting than that.

3. She made me my favorite meal on my first day of my new job. Just recently, I got my first job that was rel event to my degree. I come home to smell one of my favorite mom meals on the stove (Sausage and potato stew, yummy!). I question her why shewas cooking that. It was a Monday and we do live in New Orleans so by law one must cook red beans and rice. All she did was smile and I knew that she was cooking it for me. I felt so special!

4. She's always helped me financially, even with out me asking. Again, I state that I'm 27, and she (and my dad) are still allowing me to stay at home, even though they would've kicked me out long ago. (Though I have a feeling that there are some factors that keep them from doing that!) Instead, they'll letting me hang here till I become financially stable to live on my own. Also, she's gave me down payment money for my current car, and I didn't ask for it. She paid off the $2000 remaining money on my student loan as a graduation gift.

5. She's a strong women; I'm talking about emotionally and morally. I've seen her stand her ground on little things and I've seen her hold her head high on occasions that would make others crumble.

I love her so much that actions and words could never express it enough. I fear the day in which she disappears from my life for I can't imagine my life without her.

Now, this isn't officially, but I'm going to tag anyone who reads this. And I know who some of you are! :D

In the meantime, HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to everyone who has been a mother in any shape or form. And mom, this rose is for you.

Not I!

While most of the world's population contains those with moneymaking schemes, I’ve always been a money-saving schemer. I find a worthy cause, err, item, and plan my scheme on how I can eventually own it.

The recent fixation is a new home. ( Check out the Scarlet Rose Model, 1468; that's the one I'm currently eyeing!) It's a little far away from my dream of buying a fixer-upper, but the price is practically a steal! You see, one is not only buying a house, but also the fixtures, appliances, and labor. Only other major thing that a buyer needs to provide is the foundation. Oh, and land. I shouldn't forget that important detail.

That's kinda the cool part. After coming to the conclusion that it wouldn't be a bad idea to save up and purchase a lot, it also became clear that I already knew of a perfect place. It's right next to my brother's house, which used to belong to our grandma. It's a wonderful subdivision that's about 60 years old. But there does lay a problem. The lot I speak of is owned by an evil, evil man that wants $25,000 for a piece of property that is 26 feet wide and 120 feet deep. This wouldn't be too bad except that the foundation for a past store is still there, along with a small little building that was "renovated" just enough so the guy wouldn't have to demolish the piece of crap. Did I also mention that the property line is only 2 feet away from my brother's house? (FYI: Today's building codes state that a house must be at least 6 feet away from the property line. Hence, a new house could not be built there unless those standards are met.) Now, because of those factors, the only 2 folks that have ever been interested in it have been the two houses flanking this property. And both parties think he wants too much.

See the problem? But it would be such a great place for one of those homes that are only 13 feet wide!!

At the same time, I’m finding myself at odds with myself since I always told people that I would love to live outside the city for a few years. This urge I have to own a home has been slowly swallowing that statement, and I guarantee, that adorable little house didn't help it one damn bit.

Happy Easter!

That's All Folks!

Today was my last day at the café. So far, it just seems like I'm on vacation. I fell like this is just a break and I'll be back to work like normal. Feels like next week I'll be back to ringing up orders and telling people "have a nice day!" even though my day sucks.

God, I hope that doesn't happen.

Instead, I will take a vaction, heading out to the Spiehler household while the man of the house is out playing with his friends for the weekend. Than, Monday will be a new workday. Maybe then the feeling of going back to work at the Café will disappear.

I'll reflect on this thought this weekend while Satcey and I gorge on Haågan Dazs ice-cream and Brad Pitt. Yummm...

Finally...the Day Has Come

This past December I spoke of a stressful decision I was having about excepting the first design job I was offered...before I even graduated. I decided not to take it. My gut told me not to. So, I have spent to past eight weeks in agony, stressing out that my choice was a bad one and thinking that I through away a wonderful opportunity. On top of that, this decision had me continuing to work underneath Satan herself. Passive aggressive incompetent bitch...

NO MORE!! Hehehe

I wish I could say I ripped off her dumass head, but instead, better yet, I got a job! Working for a printing company! For more money! With better hours! Hell, with more hours! And holidays! I'll actually be off of work on a holiday!! Woo-Hoo!!!

I had plans to have playing on the radio "Take this Job and Shove It" while I told her to take this job and shove it, but I decided to be civil. Yay, not as exciting, but come to think of it, maybe I should have done something like this guy. What ya think?

2.13.2007

I wish, I wish...

There's a number of things I really want to see before I die. The Grand Conyon, which I hear is gorgeous; An Egyptian pyramid, an ancient wonder that will probbaly never be seen by eyes due to the violent conflicts in those areas; and simply, snow. Neva' seen it. Want to. These things are just a few.

One thing that definitely was not on my list was a tornado. If I saw one, it meant it was too damn close and that no good!

It was a dark and stormy night, with rain pouring down and hail falling, all doing a pretty good job in keeping me awake. On top of that, lighten was crashing and thunder was rolling. Didn't the sky know I wanted to sleep?

I did what any restless sleeper would do in such a storm. I got up and stared out of the house's front window, not minding how dangerous it could be by doing that. And that's when it happened.

At 3am this morning I saw tornado. Northeast of my house, an estimated 3/4 mile away. Talk about panic attack.

I immediately went wake up maw and paw, since I had no idea where it was going. Luckily, by the time my dad looked out the window to see where it was, it was gone. He suggested it could of been a wind funnel, which it could of. I hoped it was. i couldn't confirm it 'cause I never saw one before.

I had to wait till morning to get a confirmation and I really hoped I didn't see one. If a tornado was spoted, that means damage was done.

Unfortunately, it was a tornado. And it's trail of damage begun excatly where I saw it, which was in my neighboring city of Westwego.

I really wish I didn't see it. I feel for those that have been effected by it. And at the same time I'm thankful that all I did was saw it and not experience.

What a way for everyone to begin this beautiful sunny day. At least the weatehr left something by to enjoy.

Edit 12:15pm I didn't even think on this till I saw it on the news. For those out of the New Orleans metro, or for those that forgot about it, this tornado went through katrina ravaged homes. A lady was killed b/c her home was in a FEMA trailer. Such a delicate home in winds like that. On top of that, the tornado also ravaged homes that were in the process of being fixed up or even completed. Just imagine. You put your money, heart, and sweat into fixing up your damaged home just for all those efforts to be put to waste. Just think about it...

Week in Reveiw

It's strange, we are just coming to the end of week three in 2007 and it feels more like the end of month three. Slow year?

I'm sure there are a pinch of y'all are wondering how the current graduate is doing. One word can sum it up for y'all: eh. (Though, is that even a "word"?) I've been peeping my head in, here and there, with the beginning of the new year, mainly looking around for where a recent graphic design graduate with interests in the publishing field, could get a job around N'awlins. I decided to take a hiatus from the peeking after I applied for what I consider my dream job [in the New Orleans vicinity].

Gambit Weekly. Yep. You N'awlins folk heard me right. The Gambit. It's a great free publication down here that has great articles and excellent designers. Info for all kinds of going-ons in the city can be found in it. If y'all are familiar with the New York City's Village Voice publication, well, it's sorta like that.

I was called in for what was going to be "round one" in this little game. The first round consisted of me filing out an application and meeting with a quite friendly lady who "ooh-ed" and "ahh-ed" over my portfolio. And that was it. She told me that in about two weeks from that meeting I would here back from them on either my continuation to round two or if they were just happy to see me.

It didn't take no two weeks!

Only two days ago I heard back from them!

Only two days ago I learned that they were just happy to see me!

I really would have preferred to receive a call in for round two, but what's a graphic designer who's in need of a job gonna do? While no ill-bearings were held by me, my poor Satcey was extremely distressed and I only wished I could have been there to comfort here. BIG HUGS GAL!!

I am disappointed. I really really wanted to work there. And most importantly, I didn't want to continue looking for a job! Which, in my opinion, is the worst part about getting a new job: looking.

Bear with me...

It's about three more hours till 2007 bestows its presence on us folks down here in New Orleans. I'm taking part of my family's tradition by sitting wondering when those damn kids will stop with their fireworks. Great times indeed.

I say tradition, but for me, it's more of a fallback. When there's nothing else to do, I can count on my family to be there, lounging on the sofa with me. *Sigh*, Good times indeed!

Though don’t think this is a yearly thing. Don't think I'm a shy-stay home with my cat, sipping red wine in my pajamas counting down with who-ever is gonna host the New Year's celebration in Times Square. That is schedule to take place in, let's say, 2035, at the tender age of 55. I'm totally looking forward to the crazy cat lady phase in my life!!

While my future may seem bleak and pathetic to you all, I feel like delving into my past.

Out of my 26 years here on this planet, there are a number of New Year's celebrations that simple won't leave my mind. I can remember the few times my Aunt and Uncle would host these amazing New Year's parties–in the 80's– where they invited every living soul they knew. While the grownups enjoyed the warmth of the fire burning in the fireplace (and in their bellies from the Crown of 7), the kids enjoyed chasing me, the cry baby, around the front yard with sparklers being their choose of weapon.

I can remember the New Year's celebration into the year of 1999. I was at college, standing with friends on the balcony of the on-campus apartments, drinking god knows what. Being the beginning of 1999, you can easily guess what Prince song was blaring from every freaking direction. Yep, "1999."

I can remember 2001, in which I celebrated the New Year with Drew and Stacey, in Slidell, at their friend Emily's house. That was the last New Years Stacey and Drew celebrated as "friends" for only 2 weeks later, Stacey called me, ecstatically happy that she and Drew (the man she's been chasing down since they met in 1998) and told me they were officially "dating". Two weeks later, I got a call with them officially being "boyfriend and girlfriend". Two weeks later, they were engaged. Two weeks later the were married. What a year it was for them!!

I can remember last year and which I spent driving around the city, with CK at the wheel, in the foggiest night you could ever experience. It was a scene from a horror movie in which we couldn't even see the front of the car. As you can imagine, we cursed the mighty gods on their enjoying of canceling 2005 Riverfront fireworks. (That SUUUCKED!!)

But out of all the New Year's celebration's I have ever experienced the best one and most vivid was for 2002. It was amazing. The newly weds came into town and hosted a New Year's party at the bed and breakfast they stayed at in Algiers point

Like I said, all thanks to Stacey and her wonderful husband for the memorable occasion. By the way, the sexy woman sitting down in the blue dress is Stacey.

(Clockwise left, Kristen, Drew, CK/Rob, Stacey)
It was cold and slightly wet from the humid, but it did turn out to be gorgeous night. When the time came to toast to the New Year, every one stood out on the levee, huddled together in our coats, ready to scream and shout with noisemakers in our mouths and champagne in our hands.

This was the first picture of 2002, and while being as blurry as a drunken man's vision, it still holds a certain beauty to it. It is a picture of New Orleans, how can it not be beautiful?

Now for you lovely folks that held on to the bitter end of this post, the objective of this post is simply one thing:

What is your most memorable New Year's celebration?
Why does it stick in your mind and doesn't want to leave? Was it bad or was it simply divine?

This year, ringing in the New Year is boring as hell, but it won't be next year. Call it a gut feeling. I guarantee it's gonna beat 2002.

The Lowdown

1. Just in case you haven't experienced it yourself, tv shows can make you cry. Heck, they can make you sob like a little girl who just found out there is no such thing as Santa. Now, I'm not including Lifetime's movie of the night or repeats of Sophie's Choice, but a benefit play every week tv show. For example, Doctor Who. Tonight, I cried, no, bawled like there was no tomorrow. 'Twas the season finally, character died, tears were shed.

BTW, just because it's a sci-fi show doesn't make it B, heck, a C grade show. Like they say, "don't kknock it till ya tried it" (or something to that nature).

2. I'm losing my non-existing accent. "What," you say? Well, through out my entire life, people have always asked me "where ya from," always wondering what state I hailed from. All my life. In which I've lived in Marrero (outside NOLA), all my life. I've been asked my classmates and drug store clerks and not to long ago, tourists. Everyone of them being positively shocked that I was from here. I figured it had to do with the 1000 words a second coming out of my dainty little mouth. I'm upset because I'm gaining a "westbank" accent, heck, even a country accent (which all is due to the lovely little woman from Northern Louisiana who works with me. MAJOR accent.)

I have a feeling it has a little to do with me having am urge to not fit the stereotypical reactions of being a "westbanker" which I am. Mostly, it deals with the urge to hold onto the anonymity that had been labeled upon me.

(Geography lesson: New Orleans does not follow the typical directions of north, south, east and west. We are a city that was built around a river in which it's influence has us using downtown, uptown, midcity, lakeveiw, eastbank and westbank as unofficial city names. The city of New Orleans is on the Eastbank, with my city being on the Westbank. Got it?)

3. I received an expected check from my former school. Finally, I thought, they're refunding the $25 they owed me. WRONG. It was a check for 600 dollars. Yep kids, ya read that right. $600!!! while our probably wondering what they problem is, why I don't just be happy about it has to do with me having no idea why I'm getting this. I didn't pay for school this year, the government did. So why in the world am I getting money back? I'm freaked out by it and am totally not gonna cash this check till I get the lowdown. Like I wanna pay/give this back in the future. I don't think so!!

4. I was a graphic design job and didn't take it. Money? No, they were offering me the average staring rate (and if ya wanna know what it is, look it up!! I ain'y telling!!) Location? Only a little. It's in the French Quarter, which is great...Though there is that exception of overpriced parking. Co-workers? Couldn't seem like a better gang to work with. What's the big deal? The actual job. It would have been a repetitious gig mainly dealing with clipping paths (kinda tracing than cutting out) and cloning (it's what it sounds like, only think pictures). I can't bear the repetitious thing. It drives me nuts! It was an extremely hard decision to make, but I ended following gut and declining the position.

God, I hope I it was the right choice...

Graduation...plus a promise

This gonna be sooooo boring to ya if ya don't know me or don't like watching people cross a stage than wave like a craazy fool.

If so, pay attention so you can here the name of "Angie M Robichaux" being called out. 'Cause that's me!!
First, kudos to Mrs. Satcey to joining in the festivities and playing cameraman for us fine folks. Now...

Now, the 2 hot chicks are my mom and me, and the other guy, well, that's good ole' dad. I would apologize for his, um, expression, but that's how he normaly looks. It's just a big shame that it was caught on film! (kidding, I LOVE ya dad!!)

12.15.2006

WOO-HOO!!!

I'm a college graduate! I'm a college graduate!!

New Orleans Jazz

I saw this when I watched Studio 60 last week. The performance had me all teary eyed and I cried a little to it, but than again, I'm from NOLA, so I'll get all teary eyed over a little mention of the storm's after effects. I just found out that it's actually a bigger deal than I thought: case in point, I'm blogging a video of it. Have kleenix ready...

12.12.2006

Decisions, decisions, decisions...

I'll be graduating Friday.

I have already been offered employment as a graphic designer.

The people I would work with seem great.

My salary would be a shit load better than it is now.

I am having second thoughts on taking this job after I was specifically shown what the job entails.

*sigh* What's a girl to do?
